Swedish Massage is the most commonly practiced form of massage in Western countries. It integrates ancient Oriental techniques with modern principles of anatomy and physiology. Practitioners rub, knead, pummel, brush and tap the muscle groups being worked on.
Deep Tissue Body Work is a range of therapies that work to "unstick" the body's connective tissues and muscles in order to encourage them to function properly again. It treats whiplash, low back and neck pain, degenerative diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis and locked-up shoulders, hips, knees, etc...
Reiki is an ancient Tibetan healing system, which is commonly used to treat emotional and mental distress as well as chronic and acute physical problems. Reiki also assists in achieving spiritual clarity and focus. Practitioners use light hand placements to channel healing energies.
Reflexology is based on the ancient Chinese philosophy that we have twelve major nerve meridians or nerve passageways running through our bodies, and that they all end in and around the feet, hands and ears. So, by working these areas, fuller health can be expressed by the corresponding tissue, gland or organ in our bodies.
Craniosacral Therapy is a manual therapeutic procedure for clearing distortions in the structure and function of the CranioSacral mechanism - the brain and spinal cord, the bones of the skull, the sacrum and the inter-connected membranes. It is used to treat chronic pain, migraine headaches, TMJ and a range of other conditions.
Somato Emotional Release is a form of CranioSacral Therapy where the focus is on a specific area of the body. Through touch, visualization, guided imagery and therapeutic dialogue, emotionally held tension patterns can be released. SomatoEmotional Release is only available with CranioSacral Therapy and usually only after several sessions.
Acupressure is an ancient Chinese technique based on the principles of acupuncture. It involves the use of finger pressure (rather than needles) on specific acupuncture points on the nerve meridians to treat ailments such as stress, aches, menstrual cramps or imbalances between and within the organs. It is also used for general preventative healthcare.
Trigger Point Therapy is similar to Shiatsu and Acupressure but uses Western Anatomy and Physiology as its basis. Trigger points are tender, congested spots in muscle tissue that may radiate pain to other areas. Moderate to heavy finger pressure is applied to these points to relieve pain, stiffness and/or tension.
Myofascial Release is a hands-on technique that seeks to free our bodies from the grip of tight fascia (connective tissue). This restores normal alignment and function and reduces pain. Mild, sustained pressure is applied to gently stretch and soften the fascia. Myofascial Release is used to treat neck and back pain, headaches, recurring sports injuries and scoliosis, among other conditions.
Neuromuscular Therapy is a technique similar to acupressure but freeing the spinal nerves is the focus. It emphasizes the role of the brain, spine and nerves in muscular pain. The main goal of this therapy is to relieve tender, congested spots in muscle tissue and compressed nerves that may radiate pain to other areas of the body.
Manual Lymph Drainage is a form of very gentle usually whole-body massage that is aimed at stimulating the lymphatic system to carry away excessive fluid in the loose connective tissue. This non-invasive, painless therapy is intended for conditions such as acute and chronic edema (swelling), neuromuscular disorders, headaches, acne and sinus congestion.
Polarity Therapy is a form of energy work that balances the flow of energy in the body, which is the underlying foundation of health. Gentle touch, guidance in diet, exercise and self-awareness are used to help clients balance their energy flow, thus supporting a return to health.
Aromatherapy is another way healing is supported. Essential oils, the hormone-like substances of plants, are used to treat emotional disorders such a stress and anxiety, as well as a wide range or other ailments. The oils are massaged into the skin, inhaled, or placed in baths. Aromatherapy is often used in conjunction with muscle therapy, acupuncture, reflexology, herbology, chiropractic and other holistic treatments.
Herbology is the study of the healing properties of herbs that grow all around us. To a herbalist any plant used for medicinal purposes is an herb. Any leaf, flower, bark, root, seed, sap, berry, mushroom or seaweed used for healing is considered a healing herb. I am studying herbs and how to use them to help people...how to use them in as fresh a way, as close to their living, vital, natural state as possible.
