REIKI (ray-kee) is a natural healing technique involving the laying-on of hands to channel energy in a particular pattern. It is entirely gentle and stimulates the body's own innate wisdom to cure at the cause of the problem, promoting a holistic balancing of body, mind and spirit.
In order to become a REIKI channel, one must take a short class with a qualified Master Teacher who "fine tunes" the individual's own abilities to channel and properly instructs in the simple sequence of positions.
REIKI Master Teacher Reverend Beth Gray, of Woodside, was been instrumental in introducing REIKI to the United States and Europe from Japan, where it was rediscovered in the mid 1800's in ancient Buddhist Sutras. Her Trinity Metaphysical Center, in Redwood City, was the first and largest full-time REIKI center in the world.
"REIKI" is from the Japanese word which loosely translated means universal life force.
An Interview with Rev. Beth Gray (1986)
"It is simple and the most effective healing technique I've discovered in my 40 years of investigation of paranormal healing, worldwide. It is perfectly safe and beneficial to the channel as well as the client and simple enough to teach to a six year old."
How did it originate?
"REIKI is known to be over 2500 years old and was most recently rediscovered in the 1800's by Dr. Midao Usui, a Christian minister in Kyoto, Japan, who sought to discover how Jesus healed. The answer lay in an old Buddhist Sutra. Until my teacher brought REIKI to this country, she was the only living Master. At present, there are about a dozen and even fewer who have been extensively trained."
How powerful is REIKI?
"Very. And very gentle. It has been known to aid in the cure of diseases as serious as cerebral palsy, cancer, multiple sclerosis, hearing and sight loss and heart disease, as well as serious injury. One channel I know stopped her own heart attack as she felt it coming on."
Why become a channel?
"There are many benefits to becoming a channel. I always marvel at the changes people experience, how their faces lighten up during the class. Channels are often said to possess a certain glow. More directly, channels can REIKI themselves and actually gain energy while working on others. REIKI shields the channel's own magnetic field and insulates from a depletion of the channel's energy. In fact, REIKI increases an individual's own innate ability to channel healing energy by at least 50%.
For those with injured or ailing relatives or close friends, REIKI can be a most effective alternative to expensive care and help to bring people close together. Channels need know nothing about anatomy or the client's condition as the hands become sensitive to the pull of energy and are led to the cause as well as the symptom. By the way, hospitals are becoming accepting of REIKI. I have personally channeled in many intensive care units. Last but not least, it is not uncommon for channels to experience revitalization, a heightening of the senses and generally an increased 'joie de vivre'."
Describe a treatment
"Sessions last from 45 minutes to an hours and a half, although the time may be cut down with the addition of hands. Two or three channels can work at one time because the total energy the body draws is finite. Hands are gently placed in the appropriate pattern and energy flows automatically until the body is full. As a channel becomes experienced, the hands become sensitized to the client's needs. Both client and channel feel nurtured, balanced and exhilarated. It is common for pain to evaporate, tight places to relax and waves of energy to sweep through afflicted areas aiding in the full healing of the 'cause' as well as symptoms."
What are the REIKI Ideals?
"The ideals offer a further tool to transformation by bringing the client's mind fully into the present. They are: Just for today, do not worry, do not anger, ACCEPT. Count your blessings. Do an honest day's work. Be kind to all living things."
What you may experience during a REIKI session
Some parts of your body may 'pull' enormous amounts of energy and some none at all. This means that in some places my hands will feel warm or tingly or both, and in some, 'normal' or cool.
On different days, the 'demand' will change in intensity, and may also change in location. In general, the more REIKI sessions you have, the shorter they tend to get, after the initial four suggested. This is because, unless you are badly injured or very ill, your body has been taking the energy and begun healing itself, taking and using the energy in the way it feels is the best. As you 'get better', the need for attention or energy becomes less as the body becomes more balanced.
Some people have sessions as short as 45 minutes, and some go well over an hour...and it goes fast! We all feel differently on different days, and the energy we need changes according to the way we are feeling, mentally, emotionally, or physically, on any given day, and depending on whether we are treating an injury, illness, or frame of mind.
Some of the results can be like this...
Lessening or disappearance or pain and tension... increased sense of relaxation, calm and serenity... well-being, balance, harmony with the work, others in it, and ourselves.
"Re-charging of batteries"... feeling re-energized and peppy, like we've been on vacation.
Release of "the droopies:, feelings we have been dragging around with us that are negative and no good for us... positive outlook.
Some people, including myself during the role of pipeline, receive "flashes" or "snapshots"... intuitive pieces of insight, relating either to our health or to our feelings and relationships.
Resolution or continuing improvement/lessening of physical problems or dis-ease. For the best perspective on continued improvement, my own teacher recommends four consecutive sessions, as close together as possible. Then we can tell how often you should partake of the energy in the future, once you have 'stabilized' the demand.
WHATEVER THE SITUATION OR PROBLEM, CHANCES ARE IT DIDN'T GET THAT WAY OVERNIGHT! REMEMBER THAT IT PROBABLY WILL NOT DISAPPEAR OVERNIGHT EITHER, BUT THAT EVERYDAY IS A NEW BEGINNING, AND THAT THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO FOR YOURSELF IS TO MAKE A FIRST STEP IN ORDER TO BE GOOD TO YOURSELF. THEN, BECAUSE YOU ARE WORTH IT, YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF TO ONGOINGLY BE GOOD TO YOURSELF, WHETHER THAT TAKES THE FORM OF QUITTING SMOKING, DIETING, OR HAVING REIKI DONE TO YOU. GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO ALLOW CHANGE TO OCCUR.
